The original photograph was a photo of Lisfinny Castle, Tallow, Co. Waterford, built by the Earls of Desmond.
The card has some changes in design to the castle for Christmas cheer.
As a young boy my father managed the Stud Farm situated on the castle grounds and many days as young boys my two brothers and I sat on the top of the castle with our legs dangling out over the sides. Needles to say my father was not impressed when he saw us. You could probably hear the shouts at us for miles around for us to come down.
These were exciting days for us as young boys, we had our own pony’s and a gymkhana course riding out the pony’s every day, it was just the best. Hiding in the hay barn in our cave made of straw bales (smoking) OMG, how we didn’t cause a massive fire, I have no idea. The whole place was great fun out in the fields at the hay in the summertime and I driving the tractor, I could hardly see over the steering wheel.
So this image for me has many great young memories. So I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
It is a special dedication to my dear old dad and all dads who are in the castle in the sky now and for my beautiful brother who has joined him.
“Thank you for all the good times”.
